Narendra Modi: 14th PM of India

               Narendra Damodardas Modi , 14th prime minister of India, was born on 17 September, 1950. He is the only prime minister of India to take birth after independence from British empire. Let us discuss some detailed information about him.

Personal details
               Narendra Damodardas Modi was born on 17th of September in 1950 in a Gujrati family of Damodardas Mulchand Modi(father) and Hiraben Modi(mother).
               He used to help his father in selling tea at Vadnagar railway station and later he ran his own tea stall. At the age of eight, he was introduced to RSS. After graduation, he was engaged to  Jashodaben. But he rejected this arranged marriage and left his home. Then he travelled around the religious places of India for two years. Then he moved to Ahemdabad in 1969 or 1970. Then he became a full time worker for RSS in 1971. During the period of emergency, he was forced to join bJP in 1975. He held several positions there, until becoming the general secretary in 2001. In the same year, due to falling health and the weakening of public image of Keshubhai Patel, Narendra Modi replaced his Chief Minister's position. Then he became member of Gujrat state legislature from Rajkot.
            In 2014 general elections, he led BJP and became 14th prime minister of India and took a parliament seat from Varanasi.

Early Life and Education
            He is the third of six children of Damodardas Mulchand Modi (1915-1989) and Hiraben Modi (1920). His family belonged to Modh Ghanchi Teli community, which is also a backward cast. He sold tea at Vadnagar railway station and completed higher secondary education in 1967 at Vadnagar. He participated in debates during his school life, which was noticed by his teachers and schoolmates. He preferred larger than life characters in theatres.
           At the age of eight, he joined RSS. He used to attend sakhas (learning session) of RSS and during this, he met Lakshmanrao Inamdar, known as Vakil saheb. He also met Gajend ragadhkar and Nathalal Jaghda, the BJP leaders and founders of Gujrat unit of BJP. On the completion of graduation, he was engaged to Jashodaben, but Modi rejected this arranged marriage and left home in 1967.
He travelled various religious places of India for two years. Such as, Hindu ashrams founded by Swami Vivekananda, Belur math situated neat Kolkata, Advaita ashrama of Almora and Ramkrishna mission, Rajkot.
In 1975, Prime minister Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency around the whole country, which lasted till 1977. During this period, many political parties and groups were banned and many political leaders were sent to jail. At this time, Modi became the general secretary of Gujrat Lok Sabha Samiti and after a short while, RSS was also banned. He was forced to go underground to avoid arrest. He was involved in making pamphlets to oppose government and sending them to Delhi. He was also involved in creating safe houses for individuals wanted by government. During this time, he also wrote a book in Gujrati, named as Sangharsh Ma Gujrat (In the struggles of Gujrat). During emergency, he was forced to move in disguise and dressed as monk and as a Sikh.
Then he became the regional organiser of RSS in 1978. In 1985, he was assigned to bJP by RSS. He helped in organising the bJP campaigns in Ahemdabad municipal elections. After LK Advani, he became president of bJP in 1986. And later became the organising secretary of bJP Gujrat unit in 1987.

14th Chief Minister of Gujrat
            In 2001, BJP lost some assemble seats and some poor administrations were made by state government on handling the earthquake in Bhuj. At the same time, CM Keshubhai Patel's health was falling. Then Modi was chosen as a replacement for this post. On 3 October, 2001 he replaced Keshubhai Patel in the CM rank. Then he entered Gujrat state legislature by winning from Rajkot seat on 24 February, 2002. But after a few days, he had to face a big problem of riots in Gujrat due to burning of a train.

Gujrat Riots
On 27 February, 2002, a train got fire near Godhra and 60 people were killed in this attack. Most of them were Hindu pilgrims. This attack was stated by CM Modi as a terror attack planned by local Muslims. On the next day, Vishwa Hindu Parishad called a Bandh(closed). During this, riots began and later, state government stated that 790 Muslims and 254 Hindus were killed and about 1,50,000 people were driven to refugee camps. 26 major cities were under curfew, but it was unable to prevent the voilence.
In March 2008, Supreme Court responded cases related to 2002 riots (including Gulbarg society massacre) and established special investigation team (SIT) to look into the issue. Modi was also presented among SIT in March 2010. In May, he was presented to court but no evidence were found against him. After voilence, he was asked for resignation. Then he resigned in April 2002 in BJP national executive meeting in Goa but it was not accepted and he continued his CM post.

In 2014 Indian General Elections 
            In September, 2013, Narendra Modi was named for BJP candidate for general elections. But most of the BJP leaders, including Lal Krishna Advani, opposed this decision. But voters said if Modi is not PM candidate from BJP, they would vote to another party. Then he was accepted as PM candidate from BJP. During campaign, he focused on corruption scandals and presented high GDP growth rate of Gujrat. He made extensive use of social media qa nd addressed more than 1000 rallies via hologram appearance.
After election, BJP won 31% votes and 282 seats of Lok Sabha and became the first political party to win with majority in general elections since 1984. He was also candidate of Lok Sabha from Varanasi and Vadodara and won from both seats by defeating AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal from Varanasi and Madhisuman Mistry of INC from Vadodara. To comply with the law that one Lok Sabha member can be MP of one seat only, he vacented Vadodara seat. On 26th of May in 2014, he became 14th Prime Minister of India.

14th Prime Minister of India
            Narendra Modi is the first Prime Minister of India to born after independence. His first cabinet consisted 45 ministers. In his oath ceremony, he called all the leaders of SAARC members and became the first Prime Minister to do so. During his first year in office, GDP rate of India was 7.5%, which is the fastest growing economy in the world. In September 2014, a Make in India initiative was started by government. Clean India movement (Swachh Bharat Abhiyan) was launched on 2nd of October, 2014. Under this mission, a millions of toilets were constructed around whole country and the target is to construct 60 millions toilets by 2019. Government also presented a plan on 25 June, 2015 for developing 100 smart cities around India. A big attack on the black money was on 9th of November in 2016, when government demonetised 500 and 1000 rupees notes. This resulted a steep increase in digital payments and cashless transections since that day. The railway budget was merged into union budget and the date of presenting budget was also changed from 28 February to 1 February. The financial cycle was also changed from July to April. The biggest change in the government of Narendra Modi was the launching of GST, which is the biggest tax reform in country since independence, which was effective from 1st July, 2017.

Awards and Recognitions
              Narendra Modi was awarded as the best Chief Minister in 2007 nationalwide by India Today. He was also appeared on the cover of Asian edition of Time magazine.

One of the 30 most influential people of Time on internet in 2015.
5th rank in the greatest leaders of the world in 2015 by Fortune magazine.
In 2016, he had a great opportunity  of unveiling of his wax statue at Madame Tussaud Wax Museum, London.
